for insomnia see babuska….

Sunday morning insomnia, the rest of the world seems to be asleep as i wander around like a zombie! Its 5am and i find myself flicking around on the blogs as you do admiring other peoples handiwork and thinking ” if i only had the time i could do that’….Rosehip
had made some wonderful babuska dolls for crimbo, that looked brilliant.

comp-screen.jpg

i decided that i would try some of my own, but with paper and card as it was too early to get the sewing machine out, and besides it was quicker!!!! By 7am id made quite a few…

flat-3-floral.jpg

and by 8am i’d made even more!

dolls-flat-2.jpg

the only trouble is what to do with them now. So i’ve decided to keep a few and give the rest someone who would like them. However be warned they are very basic, the enjoyment was just making something after the christmas lull! It was nice to force myself to do something rather than just flick about on the internet until everyone began to stir.I love that time when the house is calm and still, after all anything you do before 9am is a bonus to me!…how ironic, as i type this i hear my 18 year old son, on the floor above me has walked into the kitchen, opened the fridge, shut the fridge , help himself to some cornflakes , which on planet Darryl equates to getting the largest bowl he can find, tipping whatever is left in the packet into it, and using all the milk to drown it! How smug i feel as i look at the enamel tea pot next to me knowing i will not have to go to the shop for my next cup of coffee.

I’ll draw a name from the hat next sunday, all i ask, as most bloggers do is that you would be so kind as to leave a comment about my blog, criticism is allowed although it will be vetted and only nice comments allowed! after all whats the point on letting people tell you your faults, thats what your relations are for!!!!

Happy Sunday to you all , only 4 days to go and its been a month since christmas! what was all the fuss about….

P.s…..yesterday I saw my first Easter egg in a shop, its so unfair as i’ve just started diet number 42…by this time next year im going to have all my bits where they should be! or at least where Happy remembers them being!!!!!

I have a collection of these dolls and get a new one every year from my MIl. I think these would make a grand garland to hang at christmas. I would be quiet honor if they came to live at my home.

    Hi there!
Only a nice comment from me - your babuskas are so jolly - such fun - the colours that you have used are so cheerful.
Please can I be entered into your prize draw? - thank you!

  20. Diane Says:

I love, love, love your blog! I’m so happy when you add new posts. Great sense of humor and great sense of style.

  21. julia Says:

    Love the dolls!
The previous posts about chicken were the funniest thing I’ve read in ages! Sainsbury’s were sold out this weekend apart from one solitary sad looking organic (and expensive) chicken. What’s happening ????

  22. Jen Says:

They are so cute! I have a real wooden one somewhere… Hmmm what have I done with it? Anyway I love your blog too. You always make me laugh. My criticism (a nice one) is that you don’t update it often enough and I need a good laugh at least daily. Hee hee. Oh and Easter eggs?? That’s not fair! I finally started Slimming World and lost 3.5 lbs in my first week. I can’t wait to lose lots more, so heaven preserve me from Easter eggs. PS How’s the quilt coming along?

  23. mary Says:

Love the dolls but want to see how the quilt is getting on Any chance! ?? Mary

  24. marloes Says:

The babushka’s are great! I’ll try to make them soon.
I also love the sunday mornings when the world is still a sleep. Unfortunatly I have 2 kids who wake me up every sunday morning around 6, so if I want an quite morning, I have the wake up really soon, great time to make babushka’s then by the way…

  25. Nonnie Says:

Who cares if your bits are not where they used to be. You’re a man who makes cute Babushka’s just for the fun of it! And you make us all laugh too.
I can beat you on the Easter Egg spotting. I saw my first on Dec 27th in my local corner shop. They now have dozens of the bloomin things sitting there begging me to be bought when I pop in on my way home at night. Not fair!

  26. Beata Says:

Garland, it has to be! ‘Love them…Cath Kidston meets Tolstoy!

  27. AmyWagner Says:

Hey Fred!! How’s that quilty coming along these January days????? I am on the edge of my seat waiting for an update photo. Wanting to see the Ohio fabric I sent incorporated into your creation.
Your paper handicrafts are really colorful and bright and happy! I like the bright colors you always have on your blog. You make me smile when I read your stories. This one about the bowl of cereal was great!!
